While creating this painting, I felt a strong pull toward a solo adventure - a desire to be completely at one with the natural elements. I wanted this piece to capture that spark of inspiration, to explore, and to feel truly free.
I’m understanding more and more about how contrast and composition can alter the way you view something. How certain aspects of the painting seem dull when areas are too bright. I used a Prussian blue/grey to darken the interior, giving the impression that you’re inside, completely drawn to the feelings that are connected to the water, mountains and this peaceful star lady. After reworking this painting many times, I realised the space didn’t feel right - composition truly is everything. With a bit more knowledge, I know I could execute it even better, yet I’m still incredibly proud of this piece. Being too much of a perfectionist can strip away the individuality that makes art special. Every painting is a teacher.
